The museum has acquired a remarkable non-fired clay sculpture, a posthumous portrait of the 5th Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso (1617-1682). Made of a rare material, this artwork enriches and completes the Tibet art collections of the musée Guimet.

It is in line with a process of acquisition of artworks from the same field, as shown by the acquisition of an exceptional 15th-century statuette made of gilt copper showing the dakini Nairatmya.

Thanks to the generous support of the Société des amis du Musée Guimet, two pieces of unique quality join the museum’s textile collections:

An 18th-century Japanese uchikake-style kosode, made of cream-colored silk damask, ornated with pins representing longetivity and with Chinese characters, as well as a the full fabric for a Chinese dragon-dress, n imperial piece of clothing codified during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), embroidered on a « soya-colored » background. It was made towards the end of the 18th century, probably by the Jiangnan imperial workshops.
